2006 Connecticut Club DSM Year in review!
Hello CCDSMers!
Well hard to believe another year has gone by. Seems like only yesterday we were talking about how exciting this years racing season would be. This year was very exciting with several meets and track events keeping everyone really busy.
Happy Holidays
Just wanted to take a moment to wish everyone a happy holiday season. For me it is always a great time of year with family and friends and of course getting gifts.
Regardless of what you’re celebrating this season may it be merry.
2006 Year in review:
-Meets
The year began with a new type of meet the Scavenger hunt. The turnout was awesome and everyone had a great time. Lori (97gstchick) and Heather (gsxxy) did a fantastic job with getting the clues and researching it all out. Definitely something I’m sure we could setup again if the interest was there.
As the year continued we saw a variety of meets from Laser Quest to dyno days to everyone’s favorites Hooters. But we can forget about our numerous park meets which were always a lot of fun.
I am looking forward to our December Secret Santa meet. Should be a great time. While I’m thinking of it let this be your reminder to buy your gift if you have not done so yet. The meet is only a few weeks away.
I would like to give a huge thank you to all those who planned the monthly meets. (You know who you are) It takes a lot of patience and effort to put these on. Thank you very much for all you do.
-Shootout
Once again some of CT’s finest headed out to the annual DSM Buschur Shootout in Ohio. The list of CCDSMers included: BoyBeaterTsi, Boosty, Sean92GSX, ShawnTSi, 2point2fast, VR Rook, BadVR4, raif, racer200411, Kevin90GSX, AWDream, Forcedfed4, blackfuse, and VR DJ. (If I forgot you sorry wasn’t intentional.)
We rolled out with four cars this season two nine capable and two ten second cars. For ShawnTSi and Kevin90GSX it was early elimination.
Kevin90GSX saw complications early on when his lower IC coupler ripped apart. Only to have it fixed by Mark Miner (racer200411) as they were calling cars for the first round of the DSM Eliminator. While eliminated in the first round Kevin saw a very nice 10.8@131 on his last pass of the event.
ShawnTSi also ran into some trouble when his antilag had other ideas. While he may not have hit the times he wanted to it was awesome to see his pristine 1gb compete. Look forward to watching his car dip into the 10’s on a regular basis come 2007.
Raif and Tony (2point2fast) both qualified for the holy grail of the shootout, the Quick 16. With insanely fast cars like the Buschur 8 second Evo and Marco from Magnus in his 8 second 2g. Both knew it would not be an easy field. Raif ran into some trouble when mysteriously his turbo to manifold bolts went missing. While trying not to get pulled over on the street on Ohio, Tony found himself in the semifinals for a second year in a row but came up ever so short against Magnus running 8’s. Tony still clicked of an impressive 10.1.
Overall it was a great showing by all participants. I’m sure that next year will only be more exciting and hopefully we can have some more members competing and hell maybe even make a magazine.
-Track Events
CCDSM rented LVD twice this year. Our first event in July after we were rained out in June was a huge success with the list filling up early on. Full of DSM’s, running time boards, and perfect weather what more could you ask for you ask? Personal bests for several members:
Blackfuse saw low 13’s with a 13.25@97, Forcednduckshn saw his car go 12.71@108, sbw went 12.2@116, red90awd finally broke 11’s with consistent 11.8’s all day long, the best being an 11.8@116, and last but not least Kevin90GSX finally broke the 10 second barrier with a 10.8@118.
Our second event on October 6th was a cold one. This event was much smaller which only meant more runs for everyone. ShawnTSi on his quest for 10 saw a new personal best of 11.0@133, TheClaw went 12.5@111 running a new personal best, FastColt went 12.1@118 on a crazy slick setup, and BoyBeaterTSi finally made it to one of our events and went 12.0.
Overall it was a great season for personal bests and we look forward to planning these same two events for next season. Hopefully even more will join in on the fun.
2007 Calendar
I will be putting together another calendar for 2007. Note we do not make any money off of them. I don’t mark them up so it’s whatever CafePress decides to charge. I hope to have them completed by the end of December if not early January. The cost is $15.99.
.ORG
After several years of running under the .net extension we were lucky enough to capture back the ORIGINAL .org URL. We are very happy to have the extension that we were so widely known for many years ago. I was personally happy about it for the simple fact that ccdsm.org is the link you can find us under when you go to dsm.org. For those of you who have been around for a very long time you will know what an accomplishment it was to have this back.
Looking ahead to 2007
This year was a great year for CCDSM. Membership increased once again and many new faces showed up at our meets and events. It is always great to see new people getting involved.
I’m happy to announce that Derek (fbodymechanic) will be joining the mod team and teaming up with Lori to handle the 2007 events. They have already told me some of the great ideas they have planned for this upcoming year and I think it’s going to really get more people involved and we even have a few meets planned for you guys located in the New Haven area who always complain because we don’t come your way. This coming year will be your chance to show up. So keep your eye out for that and many other new things.
We are going into our forth year since Connecticut Club DSM was re-launched and I am happy to see the progress we have made from EZboard, to PHPBB, to what we have now. With new members and others stepping up I only see our club becoming more successful.
With 2006 under our belt I personally would like to say thank you for making our community what it is today. Even with the best software and monthly meets our club and site would cease to exist with our great members that we currently have.
Can not wait to see how 2007 will play out.
Take care and speed safe!
